1978 - Lisbon, Portugal
Located on an historic 17th century Portugese estate, the design of the United States Embassy: Chancery and Consulate in Lisbon challenged the design team to meet the complex functional requirements and strict security demands of the U.S. State Department while acknowledging the context and fabric of the Portugese landscape. The project included the renovation of the historic embassy Manor House. Its adaptive re-use included ambassador and embassy staff dining/food service facilities and embassy Marine security housing.
The program’s accelerated design and contract documents phase allowed construction to begin two years sooner than any previous State Department project.
