1974 - Seattle, Washington
The 850,000 square foot Jackson Federal Office Building encourages public use by creating inviting plazas and ground floor entries and lobbies with distinctive wood and brick detailing.
Historic relics from the landmark Burke Building which formerly stood on the site, were incorporated into various parts of the new structure. The contextual design of the exterior is integrated with the steeply sloping site. Permanent, monumental materials exparess the function of the building and its structure. Plazas connected by a series of cascading steps and the exterior art work have become important identifying elements in the Seattle cityscape. The government office building also houses a United States Customs/Tax Court, multipurpose auditorium and cafeteria. The firm is currently involved with renovations to the facility.
Bassetti Architects provided architectural services in a joint venture with John Graham Associates.
