Seattle, Washington
Originally built in 1892, Trinity Parish Episcopal Church was badly damaged in the Nisqually earthquake of 2001. During the five years necessary to raise the $7 million project cost, the congregation held services in their Parish Hall, remaining steadfast to their goal to restore Trinity Church and ensure that this national and local landmark would remain a treasure for the community.
Although significantly disrupted to upgrade structural, mechanical and electrical systems, the beauty of the original interior has been restored and enhanced with a new sound system and lighting. The chancel meets current worship practice needs with a seamlessly incorporated raised platform and new altar in the historic space.
An accessible entrance was added to the building exterior. Once landscaping is complete, flowering vines will cover the trellis wall and provide a natural backdrop for the historic cross placed in the memorial garden.
