Fire Station 17
2010 - Seattle, Washington
The design of Fire Station 17 hinges on blending the rehabilitation of an historic building with a new addition that includes three new apparatus bays, crew sleeping quarters and a new drill court. The addition is designed as a highly efficient “machine” that allows fire-fighters and equipment to move quickly through the building and onto the street. Advancing toward LEED Silver certification, with the possibility of attaining a Gold level, the project recovers drill water for landscape irrigation and has rooftop solar hot water heating - effective even on cloudy Seattle days.
