Franklin High School

1990 - Seattle, Washington
The award-winning restoration and addition to the 230,000 square foot historic landmark, Franklin High School, required a design approach that was sensitive to site, context, program requirements and community involvement. Built in 1911, the unreinforced masonry building presented a complex seismic problem to the design team. The solution preserved the masonry facade by structurally tieing the existing building to a new addition. The scope of work included a new auditorium and stage; media center; art classrooms; science and vo-tech labs.
