2010 - Federal Way, Washington
Designed for 800 students, “A School in the Park” is the theme inspiring student-focused learning at Lakota Middle School. Exterior green spaces encourage casual learning, gathering, and provide places for outdoor performance and quiet refuge. Indoors, three clustered learning communities support a personalized middle school learning experience and provide a variety of spaces to accommodate integrative, exploratory activities and teaching methodologies.
At 97,082 square feet, the school meets the Washington Sustainable School Protocol and features the largest thin film photovoltaic energy generation installation in the state, anticipated to offset 13 percent of the school’s energy cost.
Connections to the community are facilitated by school use of soccer and baseball fields in the adjacent park. The school gymnasium is also available to community members during non-school hours.
