Nestled within a grove of mature trees, Spruce Elementary School connects to nature while offering a safe and flexible learning environment for its diverse community. The new Phase 1 building includes a gymnasium, commons, stage, music room, administrative offices, kitchen, and new learning support offices. Educational opportunities dispersed throughout the building are relished teaching moments for students passing by. The welcoming entry includes an interpretive wall displaying tree rounds from trees cleared for the new building. The rings of the tree were counted by students and key moments in the trees history were marked. While playing basketball, students can learn how to read "Spruce" in morse code on the brick wall lining the court.

Currently in design, Phase 2 will demolish existing buildings to make way for a new two-story classroom building and add a new library to the Phase 1 building. Spruce Elementary School staff and volunteer parents have been extremely helpful with their heavy involvement in a rigorous design process to assess the specific needs of the Spruce community. The end result will be a cohesive new school that provides a safe, inspiring place to learn and will be readily available to accommodate the influx of student enrollment.

Spruce Elementary features a tree round display from trees cleared for the new building. Working with the students, Bassetti created a timeline of notable events. Students use color coded dots to understand how the tree grew over time.
