Built in 1994, Tualatin High School has been a successful part of a growing suburban community. Originally sized to a 1,600 – 1,800 student enrollment, the school now needs to provide space for a current and forecasted enrollment of 2,000. The existing structure reflects a well-maintained appearance and was originally built as one interconnected complex. The few additions of the past, such as the Tech Wing, have been freestanding structures. The school district bond passed last year to improve a variety of spaces in the existing school and help with the student population increase.

The project goals are to create 21st century learning opportunities by expanding CTE and makerspaces, improve student safety and security with a centralized and visible school office and a main entry point visible from that office, and to protect the community’s investment in existing facilities. The goals passed in the bond translated into the following work: Evaluation of ways to increase the size of existing spaces with a series of additions to the building, in both academic and athletic areas, and relocating the administration offices to a central and visible location. With these additions, the school district is also approaching the goal of facility parity with Tigard High School.
