The University of Washington, Tacoma was faced with a critical and immediate need for more office and classroom spaces to support their campus's rapid growth. Teamed with Mortenson Construction, Bassetti provided master planning services for this landmarked structure on the campus, in need of renovation. Our design-build partnership explored what uses the building best adapted to, the code implications of various interventions, and the cost of each component of work. The end-result was a master plan for the renovation, which enabled the University to make well-informed decisions on how to prioritize spending to meet its space needs over the next five years.

Because of the University’s urgency, our design-build team began work immediately on phase one of the master plan. Bassetti’s close collaboration with Mortenson throughout the process enabled a speedy project delivery; our team completed work on the master plan and the 30,000 sf renovation of the McDonald-Smith Building in just twelve months.
